Questions tutors ask us
How much does it cost me as a tutor?
Nothing — ever. Tutor accounts are free. Parents subscribe to the app for their kids, and you earn a share of every subscription that came through your invite.
How exactly do I earn money?
Each family you invite subscribes to CubTutor. You keep 25% of what they pay — $68.75 a year on the $275 mid-level plan — for as long as that family stays subscribed. Fifteen families is $1,031 a year, recurring, for work you already did.
Is the 25% a one-time payment, or does it keep paying?
It recurs. You earn your share every year the family renews, for the life of that subscription — not just the first year. No cap, no expiry date.
How do I actually get paid?
Through Stripe. You connect a bank account once — it takes a few minutes, and Stripe handles the identity verification — and your share is deposited automatically after that. Payouts run monthly.
When does the first payment arrive?
Your share is credited the moment a family’s payment clears, then held for 30 days to cover the refund window. After the hold, it goes out in the next monthly payout.
What happens if a family cancels?
Anything already paid out is yours — we don’t claw back past earnings. The 30-day hold is there precisely so early refunds get settled before money moves. You simply stop earning on that family’s future renewals.
Do I need a business or special tax setup to be paid?
No. You can be paid as an individual. Stripe collects the tax information it needs when you set up payouts, and you’ll receive the appropriate tax forms for what you earn.
What do parents control vs. what do I control?
Parents control the schedule — how often quiz breaks interrupt play, daily limits, and which subjects are age-appropriate. You control the content — the question sets and topics your student sees.
Do kids have to be gaming for it to work?
No. Quiz-Break Mode works during game time, but kids can also open CubTutor directly in Study Mode to take the quizzes you've assigned.
What subjects are available?
The library ships with 43,000+ ready-made questions: 33,000+ math (grade-based plus Algebra, Geometry, Calculus and SAT-prep tracks), 9,500+ English & reading, plus science and social studies — and it keeps growing. And you can add your own custom question sets for anything you teach.
Do I have to write the questions myself?
No — that's the point. Assign ready-made banks by subject and grade in a couple of clicks. Writing your own custom sets is optional, for when you want the popups to match exactly what you taught this week.
